This may be overnightor last for several months and in some instancesextend for up to one year. This is the most common type of placement and the length of placement will depend upon the decisions made for the child and whether there are court proceeding taking place. Short term placements may be planned but often an emergency occurs making a placement necessary.
This is for children who will not be returning to their birth family. They may stay in placement until the age of 18 or beyond under the new ‘Staying Put’ arrangements. Carers provide essential stability and support as children become young adults.
Many short term placements start off as emergency placements and can take place at any time during the day or night. Children may be brought to you by a duty social worker or the Police.
Wherever possible, it is important for brothers and sisters to stay together when in care. This means busy households, some challenges – but great rewards.
